At the southern tip of Africa, where two mighty oceans meet in the shadow of landmark Table Mountain, lies the finest Cape in the world. Known locally as the Mother City, Cape Town is the gateway to the South Africa wine lands and one of the great wine capitols of the world. Here the cultures of Africa, Europe and the East have met and mingled for over 350 year’s, shaping a city both ancient, rich in colorful history and culturally diverse. Archbishop Tutu described the new South African nation as “the rainbow people of God”, and the “rainbow nation” was born. The Cape wine-growing areas, situated in the narrow viticulture zone of the southern hemisphere, have a...

Like many writers and artists who frequented Soho's The Groucho Club and The Coach and Horses, Afshin Rattansi first met Jeffrey Bernard in the 1980s. A revival of the Keith Waterhouse play starring Tom Conti in which Bernard is the lead character, talking about life at the Coach has just opened in London's West End, coinciding with the announcement that Rattansi's novel "The Dream of the Decade" will be on sale at the bar.The play is named after the line that often appeared in the UK's Spectator magazine where Bernard's column, "Low Life" would have appeared had Bernard not imbibed too much to complete his piece. Rattansi recalls Bernard explaining to him that he only drank to stay the pain of...

Alcohol, as a rule, is generally easy to serve. For beer, you simply hand someone a can or a bottle and, if need be, a bottle opener. For hard alcohol, you simply pour the spirits into a mixer, add in a straw, or perhaps a mini umbrella, and send them on their way...

Caffeine, like chocolate, often receives bad publicity. Whilst in some instances, and in excess, these can have negative effects on our body, they can also be quite beneficial.I am not disputing that some people are more sensitive to the negative effects of either caffeine or chocolate. For example, excess caffeine can create anxiety, nausea (particularly of taken on an empty stomach), an increase in heart rate, and even depression in some people. And chocolate is certainly not something that should form the mainstay of one's diet. If struggling with sugar addiction, or wanting to lose weight, there are more nutritionally complete foods that are available. But scientists have turned up some...

I myself enjoy the occasional bottle but never enough to make my own.Wine however, is another story...

Here is a simple and effective way to remove red wine from your carpet. The biggest mistake most people make when trying to remove a spill from their carpet is rubbing on the spot with a rag or paper towel. Rubbing any spot or spill will only push the spill further down into the carpet and may actually penetrate the fiber itself, getting into the dye site. This is very bad, especially if the carpet is nylon, which the majority of carpet in residential homes are.Red wine can be even trickier because it naturally contains dye. Even blotting the stain like you should, does not always remove red wine. So what is a good way to remove red wine? Next time you have a red wine spill, cover the spot with corn...

Buying French Wine

The French wine industry, as well as the rest of Europe is in a bit of a spin. Over production, together with a drop in consumption, has lead to millions of litres of French wine and others, being turned into alcohol or vinegar and vines being grubbed up.Not only that, but we are being flooded by wine from the USA, South America, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand plus the stuff from the new EU members from the Eastern Bloc. If that is not enough, India is starting to expand it's small but long established wineries. It has been said that the French wine producers have, to some extent, brought this problem on themselves as they were resistant to change when it came to marketing their wine...

Ice wine is one of the most precious wines produced under a particular weather condition. Ice wine is a rare wine and mainly produced in the Northwestern Pacific region. It is an irony that in this world anything of supreme quality is made in a very small quantity. The highest quality and lack of availability makes the product precious and rare. Only a few lucky ones who have enough money in their wallet can avail those precious products. Like diamond, ice wine also comes in that elite league of products which we all dream of and hope to experience. Too much dependency on weather makes ice-wine hard to produce. Yet when the precise weather condition arrives, the wine maker gets ready to produce this...

The question we must ask of advertising is: How do we craft marketing strategies and creative brand messages that...
